Description
An exceptionally colorful antique haori, presumably from the 1930s to 1940s.
On a light grey to blue-grey ground, fine, radiating lines in a strong reddish-purple spread across the entire fabric, reminiscent of large, abstract blossoms. Overlaid on these are striking floral motifs in deep green and white, recalling camellias.
At first glance, this haori appears very vibrant and expressive. At the same time, the colors have a slightly subdued effect typical of antique textiles, making the overall impression very harmonious and sophisticated despite its striking design.
The repetition of the fine, radiating lines is particularly captivating. This makes the pattern look less like a classic floral motif and more like a graphic, almost modern textile design. The large blossoms above it create additional depth, so the haori appears quite different from a distance than it does up close.
The lining also possesses the charming character of antique Japanese textiles. Small dark green blossoms and large pink flowers are scattered across a cream-colored ground. It picks up some of the color moods of the outer fabric yet opens up a completely different visual world. This playful interplay between the outside and inside is precisely what makes this antique haori so special.
A haori that, when simply worn over modern clothing, creates a very individual and stylish look.
Antique and older vintage haori may show age-related signs of wear. Visible imperfections are described as accurately as possible and documented photographically. Please consider that these are older or antique unique pieces when making a purchase.
