Description
An antique kimono from around the 1930s.
Wheel-shaped, blossom-like motifs are arranged on a black background, giving this piece an exceptionally graphic and design-oriented appearance.
Compared to the opulent aesthetic of the Taishō period, the pattern already appears more abstracted and clearly points to the modernist design of the early Shōwa era. The geometric composition and restrained color scheme subtly evoke the Art Deco style.
The lining features an impressive color combination: a vibrant red in the upper section and a natural-colored hem (Hakkake), which together create a harmonious yet contrasting accent to the black outer fabric – a characteristic detail of antique kimonos.
The fabric is exceptionally soft and has the typical, slightly matte feel of aged silk, which gives the kimono a special depth and elegance.
This piece personally appealed to me so much that I initially kept it in my own collection for a while.
Simple yet expressive, this kimono can be styled in many ways. Thanks to its black background, it is excellent for modern outfits and can be worn casually as well as elegantly.
