An antique Meisen Haori, presumably from the 1930s-1940s. The geometric pattern of overlapping rectangular shapes appears astonishingly modern. Red, orange, dark green, gray, delicate pink, and other shades meet here without appearing restless – instead, a very balanced and harmonious overall impression is created.
The slightly muted color palette gives the Haori a particularly beautiful retro character. The contours of the individual areas also appear slightly blurred or irregular in places. This is precisely how one recognizes that it is not simply a printed fabric, but the special effect of the weaving technique – a typical and charming characteristic of Meisen.
The lining is also very individually designed. It differs significantly from the outer fabric, yet picks up similar color moods, so that both sides, despite their differences, harmonize surprisingly well with each other. It is precisely this combination that conveys the special charm of antique Japanese clothing.
This Haori can be wonderfully combined with modern clothing. Even worn over jeans, black trousers, or a white shirt, a very expressive look is created.
