Description
This antique haori features a fine all-over Komon-style pattern of red and dark blue dots, overlaid with floral motifs.
The haori likely dates from the late Taishō to early Shōwa period (approx. 1920s–1930s).
The pattern is reminiscent of classic Edo Komon designs, yet the bold color combination of red and dark blue makes it modern and very elegant.
The inner lining provides a beautiful contrast: it is designed with a lively bouquet motif in pink, red, and green. The contrast between the understated exterior and the colorful lining reflects the Japanese aesthetic of “Iki” – a subtle elegance with a hidden, playful detail.
Both the outer fabric and the lining are made of very soft silk, which feels pleasant to the touch and gives the garment a high-quality appearance.
The haori can be styled in many ways: elegantly over a dress or modern with jeans and other trousers. This makes it suitable for many different occasions.
When moving, the colorful inner lining occasionally peeks out from the sleeves – a special charm typical of traditional haori.
