Description
A beautiful vintage Hanhaba obi from Japan, likely dating from the 1960s to 1980s, featuring a traditional Kikkō pattern in vibrant green and gold.
The Kikkō pattern consists of hexagonal shapes reminiscent of a turtle shell. In Japan, the turtle has long been considered a symbol of longevity and good fortune. Kikkō is therefore one of the traditional lucky motifs frequently found on kimonos and obi.
Stylized fans can be seen inside the golden hexagons. The fan is also considered a lucky symbol in Japan, as its outward-opening shape represents growth, prosperity, and a positive future.
The combination of bold green, shiny gold tones, and geometric patterns gives this obi a particularly magnificent and expressive appearance.
Although it is a Hanhaba obi, its elaborate design gives it a particularly elegant look. With a beautiful tying technique, it can be paired not only with casual kimono outfits but also wonderfully with a silk kimono.
The fabric is somewhat firm and has a pleasant stability, allowing the obi to retain its shape well and making the patterns stand out beautifully.
An exceptional vintage Hanhaba obi that combines traditional Japanese lucky motifs with a magnificent color scheme and offers many possibilities for individual kimono combinations.
