This antique haori is believed to date from the 1930s to 1940s. A piece that embodies the classic beauty of antique haori.
On the black Chirimen fabric with a woven pattern, large maple leaves and abstract motifs reminiscent of Kanoko-Shibori unfold with impressive presence. The fine maple embroideries set additional accents and give the haori an even more elegant and refined look.
The lining features a striking, tomoe-like pattern with hints of arabesque ornaments and traditional raimon motifs. Even the hidden details reflect the refined aesthetic sense of the pre-war era. Particularly fascinating is the interplay of motif and empty space, which gives the haori a unique atmosphere. While the outside displays autumnal maple motifs, the lining appears almost Art Deco modern — a wonderful example of the playful elegance of antique haori from the pre-war period.
