Description
This haori impresses with its very clear and understated appearance.
The almost black, deep dark base tone appears simple and understated at first glance. Only upon closer inspection do the fine fabric structure and the subtly incorporated silver thread embroidery reveal themselves, lending the piece a quiet elegance and a subtle sophistication.
Based on the quality of the fabric and the workmanship, this haori can be dated to the late Taishō period to the early Shōwa period (1920s–1930s) and is considered a genuine antique piece.
From a distance it appears almost monochrome, but with movement and light incidence, the fine silver threads gently emerge and give the haori a vibrant depth.
The illustrations depict lovingly portrayed everyday scenes with figures and landscapes, and subtly tell of Japanese culture and life at that time.
While the exterior impresses with its restraint, the interior surprises with its narrative expressiveness – a contrast that impressively embodies the Japanese aesthetic of the Iki .
An embroidered family crest is discreetly placed on the back. It lends the Haori dignity and tradition without being obtrusive.
Suitable both as workwear and – combined with a dress – for special occasions such as theatre or evening events.
A haori with a quiet presence that naturally accentuates the personality and elegance of the wearer.
