Description
This rare Japanese haori, presumably from the 1920s to 1940s, features a vibrant Art Deco floral jacquard and an impressive crimson lining.
The abstract peony motif and the intense color palette, ranging from bluish-purple to royal blue, give this piece a strong visual presence and reflect the modern aesthetic of pre-war Japan.
The silk is exceptionally soft and has the supple, elegant feel of old Japanese fabrics. A piece you want to touch again and again just for its texture. I myself had this haori in my private collection for a long time and only parted with it with a heavy heart.
The lining features a traditional red Shibori pattern, whose contrast with the outer fabric further accentuates the haori's beauty. Especially when walking or when the sleeves lightly open, a beautiful interplay of colors is created.
The floral jacquard of the outer fabric stands out plastically depending on the light, lending the piece a special depth and elegance. An impressive example of the luxurious textile art of early 20th-century Japan.
A special piece for collectors and lovers of exceptional clothing.
Whether as a wearable art object or worn in everyday life, this haori unfolds a quiet yet strong presence.
*As visible in the photos, the outer fabric shows age-related small thread pulls, light abrasions in the fabric, and subtle color changes. We consider these characteristics part of the special character and beauty of antique textiles.
