Description
A haori in elaborate shibori technique with cloud motifs (kumodori).
Probably from the mid to late Shōwa period (approx. 1950s–1970s).
Against a deep purple background, cloud-like patterns in beige and natural tones flow together in a generous, fluid composition. The artistic design draws the eye, yet never appears intrusive, instead impressing with its quiet elegance and the quality of its execution.
The lining is particularly noteworthy: landscapes, figures, and plants are depicted across the entire surface in a style reminiscent of hand-painted Yūzen motifs. The soft, harmonious color scheme underscores the elegant appearance of this piece.
This haori reflects the Japanese aesthetic of “visible food” (Miseru Haura) – a form of subtle, stylish expression of taste and refinement.
Wearing it naturally lifts your mood, and the haori is an excellent, stylish garment for everyday wear.
