Description
Black men's haori with impressive ink painting, presumably from the 1950s to 1970s.
The haori possesses the characteristic heavy and dignified aura of traditional men's clothing and impresses with its strong presence.
On the black ground is a family crest of the Mokkō family (Mokkō-Kamon), a widespread crest form in Japan, used by both samurai families and merchants.
The inner lining is adorned with a powerful ink painting of pine trees and calligraphic characters. The composition conveys the impression of a complete work of art and reflects the educated taste of Japanese literati and artist culture. Several seals and signatures reinforce the impression that a self-contained work has been integrated into the haori.
On the collar, there is also a narrow, card-like element with the inscription "Mizuhashi" (水橋), which has been woven or dyed in. This may be the name of an artist or a pseudonym, but a definitive attribution is not possible.
An extraordinary haori that can be worn, or presented as a collector's item or decorative art object.
*Stains are present as visible in the photos. Overall, the item shows age-related signs of wear. The family crest (Kamon) is also somewhat faded and discolored as a result. Please refer to the photos for the exact condition.
